A Tipping Point… Sort Of

By: Rob Sethreamazon-kindle

An interesting article appeared recently which is relevant for the imaging industry.

For the first time in its history, Amazon sold more electronic books for their Kindle product than hard copy books. While this development is inevitable (eventually), it was remarkable for several reasons:

  • Speed - Now? Already? That was fast! If anybody was watching the divergent trends of digital and analogue cameras at the time, they will recall that transition took place at a more leisurely pace. Years of anticipation preceded the actual event.

By: Bob Groover

Have you ever thought to yourself, “I’m so happy with my current vendor!”  No? Well, you are among the majority…

There are currently many ventures founded today enabling cloud printing in public spaces. The latest trend has been the release of an Android application which enables true cloud printing uploads to its print network. GlobalPrint for one, has units installed in public locations such as convention centers, hotels, resorts and airport lounges. The company’s install base of enabled printers, nodes and kiosks can be used by consumers to walk up, login, print and go.

Is MPS Right for Your Company? Business-Woman-Pointing

By Bob Jones

For managers or CEO’s considering managed print services, the move over to this eco-friendly and forward thinking print management option can be a somewhat challenging move. Budgets need to be considered, and for small to medium businesses it may seem like an unnecessarily expense to outsource a company to handle print auditing, printer and fax management and various other duties associated with managed print services. Scrambler/Encryption – Standard on Toshiba

Due to the popularity of our recent post on copier security, we have decided to feature information from Toshiba on how exactly to secure the data on an e-studio MFP hard drive. Protect your stored documents with 128-bit encryption and Key Code access.

Encryption--Data-Overwrite-made-easy_Page_1

The Process:

  • Documents are sent to System Board
  • System Board converts documents and sends them to the appropriate output for printing, copying or scan  to PC
  • Scrambler board encrypts data and sends to hard drive
  • Documents can only be recovered from the hard drive using the encryption code which is unique (128-bit)

Feel free to contact us about this procedure.

ArchivingArchiving for a Reason

By: Troy Seymour

Allen Podraza’s article “Why Your Organization/Association Should Have Archives” makes businesses think about the value of archiving. There are a couple of key points I personally took away from reading this article.  The first great take away for me was about keeping archives of your organization’s records of enduring value. All too often we only hear bad news or what we need to improve. This is valuable information that can be shared as positive input at annual meetings.  The second key point I want to emphasize is that archives can be a revenue center for your organization by offering digital access services and licensing of photographs, advertising, videos, journals, and other data. I would have never thought of this “task” as a source of revenue for an organization. Thanks for the great article Allen!
